2020 Election – Register To Vote

In California, the deadline to register to vote for any election is 15 days before Election Day, so please register early!

California offers voter registration online, by mail, and in person. Your registration must be postmarked or submitted electronically no later than: Monday, October 19, 2020.

Online voter registration is available here: RegisterToVote.ca.gov

You will need a California-issued driver license or California identification card number, the last four digits of your social security number, and consent to the use of your DMV-stored digital signature to use California’s online voter registration system. If you don’t have a California-issued ID or don’t want to provide consent for the use of your digital signature, you can still register by mail to vote.

Vote-by-mail:

Voting by mail is SAFE and EASY—and you don’t even need a stamp in California! All active registered California voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the November 3, 2020 election

When you receive your California vote-by-mail ballot, make sure to read and follow the included instructions carefully. After carefully marking your choices on your ballot, simply:

Seal it. Secure your ballot inside the envelope from your county elections office.

Sign it. Make sure the signature on your ballot envelope matches the one on your California driver’s license or state ID, OR the signature you provided when registering. Your county elections office will compare them to protect your vote.

Return it by mail OR in person:

By mail: Make sure your ballot is postmarked by November 3, 2020. No stamp required!

In person: If you prefer, drop your ballot off at a secure drop box, polling place, vote center or your county elections office by 8:00 PM on November 3, 2020. Click here to find a ballot drop off location near you.

Track it. Click here to track your ballot and sign up for status alerts by text message, email or voice call.

Attention Youth! Are you 16 or 17 years old? Don’t forget to pre-register to vote!

Online pre-registration is now available for eligible 16 and 17 year olds by visiting: registertovote.ca.gov

California youth who pre-register to vote will have their registration become active once they turn 18 years old. Pre-registration does not change the voting age, which is 18. Instead, it allows eligible Californians ages 16 or 17 to complete the online voter registration form providing sufficient time and opportunity to get ready to vote.

College Students and Voters Living Abroad

As a Californian living away from home while attending a college, trade school or technical school, you may choose to register to vote using your home away from home address you use while at school or your traditional home address.
