Tobacco Cessation Info Night #1: Health Equity and LGBTQ Community

Do you know how health disparities affect the LGBTQ community? How does tobacco play into that? On April 14th, we went LIVE with Tony and Dannie on IG to learn the disparities that have led to health inequities, social determinants to health, and tobacco cessation programs that help keep our community safe!

Dannie has worked with non-profits for over 10 years in program development and advocacy. He is passionate about LGBT Healthcare and is a World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) member. Prior to joining Health Access, Dannie strengthened the Trans*itions Health and Wellness Program while creating the LGBTQ Health Department at the LGBTQ Center Orange County. Dannie has been awarded Community Icon of the Year by Orange County Pride, Pro Bono Community Partner of the Year by UC Irvine School of Law, and the Diversity Spirit Achievement Award by City Career Fair.

Social Determinants of Health: How Smoking is Personal. A discussion with a young adult revolving around social determinants of health and smoking. As youth are often targeted by tobacco marketing, it is important to get a youth perspective about tobacco use among the LGBTQ community. So, how does the next generation really feel? We went LIVE on Instagram, May 19th, with Mark Saldua is a recent graduate from the University of California, Irvine. Mark he earned his bachelor’s of science in Public Health. While interning at the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD-OC), Mark developed a passion for bringing awareness to health disparities within marginalized communities.
